ST. JAMES PLANTATION CHAPEL
Carols by candlelight
Back by popular demand, this year’s Christmas Music Celebration at the St. James Chapel will feature two performances on Thursday, December 19 at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
The TrebleMakers, an immensely talented St. James quartet, will put you into the Christmas spirit with performances of specially arranged Christmas songs as well as leading us in singing traditional carols.
Each performance will conclude outside in the Chapel gardens where we will hold lighted candles as we sing 'Silent Night.' At each performance a free will offering will be taken to support the SOIICF Food Pantry. Join us for this special event.
One of the earliest amenities in our community, St. James Plantation Chapel is a tribute to the vision and generosity of Homer Wright. As founder of St. James, Homer built the Chapel to give residents and potential buyers a feeling of community, stability, and direction as they drove along the Green Mile. In 1997, Homer deeded the completed Chapel to a newly created 501(C)3 charitable corporation that is managed by a board of directors.
Our Philosophy
STJPC is a welcoming, ecumenical community of worshippers. It reflects the goals of our founder, Homer Wright, who wanted to build more than just houses. He wanted to build a community - a community that would lure people from all over the country to leave their homes and come to the North Carolina coast to live and celebrate their golden years. Homer reasoned that churches were an essential part of life for many of the people coming to St. James, and he wanted to establish a house of worship that would welcome people from diverse faith traditions.
STJPC has no formal membership expectations or roll, no pledges or tithing, no standing committees beyond the board of directors, no full-time minister, and no affiliation with any denomination. For residents seeking that traditional level of church engagement, there are numerous options available in the greater Southport community, but for those who want dependable, quality worship experiences reflecting a diverse array of Christian faith traditions, the Chapel offers a welcoming church home.
